📊 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Iran War Day 227 opens Monday 12th October 2026 with the Houthi campaign against Saudi Arabia dominating the weekend, after a missile strike on Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport on Saturday killed at least 12 people and wounded 309, according to Saudi authorities, and a further projectile hit a passenger terminal at the same airport on Sunday while King Fahd International Airport in Dammam was also targeted. President Trump said on Saturday "We may. We're gonna look at it" when asked whether the United States would join Saudi strikes on the Houthis, while Mohsen Rezaei of Iran's Supreme National Security Council called Washington's latest response to Tehran's seven conditions "insufficient" and warned of "cables, data centers, AI facilities and other sites in the region" if intense fighting resumes. Brent crude is trading around $105 to $106 a barrel after reaching $105.48 on Sunday evening, as President Trump announced a Russian diesel supply arrangement following a call with President Putin and a temporary Treasury licence easing sanctions on Russian diesel until 7th April 2027. On Wall Street on Friday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.83 percent to 51,655.01, the S&P 500 rose 0.59 percent to 7,811.51 and the Nasdaq Composite rose 0.64 percent to 27,366.17, while the ten year Treasury yield ended near 5.25 percent and preliminary University of Michigan consumer sentiment fell to 46.3 against a forecast of 47.6.

Bitcoin is trading around $83,400 to $83,900 on Monday, up about 1 percent over 24 hours, after a Sunday high above $84,000 and a 24 hour range of roughly $82,700 to $84,100, although US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $681 million of net outflows last week, the most since June, and took in only $21.1 million on Friday. Ether is trading near $2,530 to $2,555 after nine consecutive days of spot ETF outflows, XRP trades near $1.40 to $1.42, Solana near $111 and Dogecoin near $0.087, and total crypto market capitalisation stands at approximately $2.83 trillion with the Fear and Greed Index at 69, up from 61 on Sunday. Monday is also the first day of trading for Evernorth, the XRP treasury company, on Nasdaq under the ticker XRPN, and follows the first anniversary of the 10th October 2025 flash crash, when more than $19 billion of leveraged positions were liquidated within 24 hours.

Eight dominant narratives define Monday 12th October: (1) Houthi Missiles Hit Riyadh Airport and Kill at Least 12 as Iran Calls the US Response Insufficient and Brent Holds Near $106; (2) President Trump Strikes a Russian Diesel Deal and Declares an Energy Ceasefire as Zelenskyy Calls It a Weak Decision; (3) Wall Street Ends the Week Higher Ahead of Bank Earnings and Wednesday's CPI Report as Consumer Sentiment Falls to 46.3; (4) Bitcoin Holds Above $83,000 After a Sunday Run Above $84,000 Despite the Heaviest Weekly ETF Outflows Since June; (5) SpaceX's $8 Billion Spectrum Deal Hits Telecom Shares While Delta Cuts Its Profit Outlook on a $6 Billion Fuel Bill; (6) The US Plans to Seize About $1 Billion of Iran Linked Crypto as the CFTC Moves to Separate Prediction Markets From Gambling; (7) Ledger Traces Up to $93 Million of Losses to CryptoBilis Devices and Reports an Implant in at Least One; (8) Canada Sheds 68,000 Jobs and the EU and China Agree to Moderate Chinese Hybrid Car Exports as Shanghai Slides.

Houthi Missiles Hit Riyadh Airport and Kill at Least 12 as Iran Calls the US Response Insufficient, While Trump Strikes a Russian Diesel Deal and Declares an Energy Ceasefire in Ukraine

A strike on Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport on Saturday 10th October killed at least 12 people and wounded 309, according to Saudi authorities, with an American among the dead, and on Sunday a further projectile hit a passenger terminal at the same airport, killing one Pakistani resident and injuring 11, according to the Saudi Civil Aviation Authority. King Fahd International Airport in Dammam was also attacked, the Riyadh airport was closed on Sunday, and Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree said that Saudi airports and airspace are "potential targets and sites for operations by our forces", while the Saudi led coalition said that it had destroyed 136 military targets on Friday. Lufthansa, Emirates, Etihad, flydubai, Air India and Pakistan International Airlines have suspended flights to Riyadh, the Federal Aviation Administration has told US airlines to exercise extreme caution over Saudi airspace through 10th December, and Senator Chris Murphy warned on Sunday that the conflict is "spiraling out of control". On the Iranian front, Mohsen Rezaei described the latest US response to Tehran's seven conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz as "insufficient", although the sides remain in contact through mediators, while President Trump told a rally on Friday that "Either they give us everything, or they don't exist any longer" and repeated that the US blockade of Iranian ports stays in place. US Central Command said that a US fighter jet disabled the Panama flagged M/V Ocean Molica in the Gulf of Oman on Saturday, the Revolutionary Guard said that it struck an LPG tanker, and the UK Maritime Trade Operations centre reported that the tanker Valthera was struck in the Strait of Hormuz with all 11 crew safe, while India condemned a drone strike on the tanker Petro Dolphin at Sohar in Oman, where nine Indian crew were rescued and two remain missing.

President Trump announced on Friday, after a call with President Putin, that Russia would supply more than 300,000 tons of diesel immediately, a further 500,000 tons in November, 1 million tons shortly afterwards and 3 million tons later, and the Treasury issued a temporary licence, General License 135, allowing Russian diesel loaded as of 9th October to be supplied to the global market without sanctions until 7th April 2027, the first diesel sanctions licence to run beyond the standard 30 day window since the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Over the weekend Mr Trump also declared an "energy ceasefire" between Russia and Ukraine, which Russia has not formally accepted, while Germany said that it would release up to 15 million barrels of diesel, crude and heating oil. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the diesel arrangement "a weak decision, unfortunately, a weak decision by strong partners" that would prolong the war, Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer and Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Elizabeth Warren called it a betrayal of Ukraine and European allies, and former Vice President Mike Pence urged Mr Trump to rescind it. Analysts were sceptical about the effect on prices, with Clayton Seigle of the Center for Strategic and International Studies saying that the impact was probably small, and the AAA national average for diesel stood at $6.28 a gallon on Friday against a record of $6.52 on 22nd September, while Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said that supplies could begin this month.

📈 MARKET OVERVIEW TOTAL CRYPTO MARKET CAP: APPROXIMATELY $2.8 TRILLION | Monday 12th October 2026

Total crypto market capitalisation stands at approximately $2.83 trillion on Monday according to CoinMarketCap, up about 0.9 percent over 24 hours, on 24 hour trading volume of about $65 billion, with Bitcoin's dominance at around 59.3 percent and Ether's at about 11.0 percent, after a weekend in which Bitcoin rose above $84,000 on Sunday before easing back and smaller tokens did much of the heavy lifting. CoinDesk reported that its CoinDesk 80 index rose about 3 percent over 24 hours against 1.2 percent for the CoinDesk 5, that LayerZero's ZRO gained 21 percent to $2.41, its highest since May 2025, that NEAR rose 10 percent to its highest since December and that Zcash rose about 6 percent on $5.46 billion of futures volume, while Starknet's STRK, up about 76 percent over the week, fell 7.7 percent on Monday. Crypto futures volume reached $126 billion, up 81 percent, open interest stood at $145.8 billion, and CoinMarketCap's Altcoin Season indicator rose to 66 out of 100, its highest in more than a year. The weekend also marked the first anniversary of the 10th October 2025 flash crash, when more than $19 billion of leveraged positions were liquidated within 24 hours, with about $7 billion in a single hour, and CoinDesk noted that Bitcoin and Ether order book depth has recovered to pre crash levels in dollar terms, whereas altcoin liquidity has continued to thin. The market now looks to the US September CPI report on Wednesday.

₿ BITCOIN (BTC) approx $83,400-$83,900

Bitcoin is trading between roughly $83,400 and $83,900 on Monday, up around 1 percent over 24 hours, after a Sunday high above $84,000 and a 24 hour range of $82,722 to $84,104, according to CoinMarketCap and CoinDesk. The token carries a market capitalisation of approximately $1.68 trillion on daily volume of around $13.9 billion, and remains about 33.5 percent below its all time high of $126,198, reached on 6th October 2025, and about 5 percent lower year to date.

Institutional flows were weak last week. US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded net outflows of about $681 million over the five sessions to Friday, the most since June, according to CoinDesk, with outflows of $487.1 million on Wednesday and $244.1 million on Thursday, of which Fidelity's FBTC accounted for $197.1 million, before a modest inflow of $21.1 million on Friday, when BlackRock's IBIT took in $22.4 million, according to TFTC's flow tracker. October flows remain negative at $388.6 million across seven sessions, Cointelegraph reported that combined Bitcoin and Ether ETF outflows were approaching $1 billion for the month, and CoinMarketCap's news feed noted that Strategy, which held 847,999 Bitcoin at the last count, is nearing 850,000 Bitcoin and that Michael Saylor has hinted at another purchase.

Positioning is cautious beneath the rally. CoinDesk reported that longs account for 52 percent of 24 hour taker volume, up from 48 percent a week earlier, that Bitcoin's implied volatility index is struggling to rise above 40 percent and that puts with strikes from $55,000 to $80,000 dominate options volume, while Glassnode noted that combined daily spot and ETF volume averaged $6.8 billion over seven days and that the rally lacked strong spot participation. Glassnode also identified liquidation concentrations between $81,700 and $83,300, buy orders near $81,000 on Binance and a further liquidation cluster near $75,000, and Rekt Capital described $82,500 as critical, warning that a weekly close below it could turn support into resistance, a level that Bitcoin held at Sunday's weekly close of about $83,750.

Immediate support lies at $83,200 to $83,400, then $82,500, $81,000 and $80,000, the level that bulls must hold to avoid a move towards the mid $70,000s, while resistance sits at $84,000 and then the $84,000 to $85,000 zone where long term holders bought and sellers have stepped in, within a consolidation range that CoinMarketCap commentary places between $80,000 and $88,000. CryptoTicker noted that rising Bitcoin dominance usually signals a defensive market rather than a panicked one.

⧮ ETHEREUM (ETH) approx $2,530-$2,555

Ethereum is trading between roughly $2,530 and $2,555 on Monday, up around 1 to 2.5 percent over 24 hours, having reclaimed the $2,500 level that it lost last week, with a market capitalisation of approximately $309 billion on daily volume of about $7.3 billion. The token is about 48.9 percent below its all time high of $4,953.73, reached on 24th August 2025, and has fallen to its lowest level against Bitcoin since August, according to CoinMarketCap.

Flows remain negative. The Block reported on Saturday that US spot Ether ETFs have extended their outflow streak to nine days, the longest since June, with CoinDesk noting that there has been no inflow day since 28th September and CryptoTicker putting the total for the streak at about $697 million, including a $202 million exit on 6th October. Whales accumulated about 166,000 ETH over 72 hours, according to CryptoTicker, which also reported that the Glamsterdam upgrade is progressing on the Sepolia test network.

On the ecosystem side, CoinDesk reported that Starknet is weighing leaving Ethereum to become a standalone, quantum resistant layer 1 network, a move that would take one of the largest Ethereum layer 2 networks out of its security model, while the token has risen sharply on the idea.

Immediate support lies at $2,500, then $2,409, last week's low, and $2,322, while resistance sits at $2,575, the previous 24 hour high, followed by the $2,625 to $2,650 zone and $2,750 to $2,800. A sustained reclaim of $85,000 by Bitcoin would probably be needed to lift Ether back through those levels, whereas a daily close below $2,409 would expose $2,322.

🔷 XRP (XRP) approx $1.40-$1.42

XRP is trading around $1.40 to $1.42 on Monday, up roughly 1 to 1.6 percent over 24 hours after a range of $1.39 to $1.42, with a market capitalisation of about $89.5 billion, ranking fifth, on daily volume of $1.29 billion. The token is about 63.1 percent below its all time high of $3.84 and about 24 percent lower year to date, and CryptoTicker noted that XRP needs Bitcoin to reclaim $85,000 before it can build its own base.

Evernorth, the XRP treasury company, completed its merger with Armada Acquisition Corp. II after an administrative delay and is due to begin trading on Nasdaq today under the ticker XRPN, with about 473 million XRP expected on its balance sheet at closing, including roughly 126.79 million XRP contributed by Ripple, which would make it the largest publicly traded pure play XRP treasury company. The transaction is expected to bring about $300 million of gross cash, including $225 million of private placements, $30 million of convertible notes and about $48 million of trust proceeds, with Ripple, SBI Group, Pantera Capital, Kraken and GSR among the participants, and chief executive Asheesh Birla has described the listing as "a regulated, transparent way to own XRP exposure and participate in the growth of the blockchain economy".

The XRP Ledger disclosed and patched a decade old bug that could in theory have allowed XRP to be created from nothing, with The Block describing the potential issuance as trillions of tokens and CoinDesk reporting on Monday why a flaw that could have threatened the 100 billion supply cap stayed hidden for years.

Immediate support lies at $1.39, the 24 hour low, followed by the 100 day exponential average near $1.33, while resistance sits at $1.42, the 24 hour high, with a move above that level likely to depend on Bitcoin reclaiming the $84,000 to $85,000 zone.

◎ SOLANA (SOL) approx $111-$112

Solana is trading around $110.90 to $111.60 on Monday, up roughly 1 to 2 percent over 24 hours after a range of $109.29 to $113.15, with a market capitalisation of about $65.3 billion, ranking seventh, on daily volume of $2.34 billion. The token is about 62.3 percent below its all time high of $294.33 and about 12 percent lower year to date.

US spot Solana ETFs snapped a record 14 week run of inflows last week, according to The Block, even as the network's technical roadmap advances, with the Alpenglow upgrade, which targets block finality of around 150 milliseconds, expected on mainnet this month, according to CryptoTicker.

Immediate support lies at $109.29, the 24 hour low, followed by $105.85 and the $100 psychological level, while resistance sits at $113.15, the 24 hour high, then $115.72 and $118.96.

₳ CARDANO (ADA) approx $0.248-$0.250

Cardano is trading around $0.2478 to $0.2500 on Monday, up about 1 percent over 24 hours after a range of $0.2469 to $0.2558, recovering from last week's low of $0.2242, with a market capitalisation of about $9.2 billion, ranking fourteenth, on daily volume of about $383 million. The token is about 91.9 percent below its all time high of $3.10 and about 25 percent lower year to date, although it was one of the few large tokens to hold a positive seven day return, up about 1.2 percent, according to CryptoTicker.

Immediate support lies at $0.2469, the 24 hour low, followed by $0.2343 and $0.2242, while resistance sits at $0.2558, the 24 hour high.

💕 DOGECOIN (DOGE) approx $0.0865-$0.0870

Dogecoin is trading around $0.0867 on Monday, up about 1.1 percent over 24 hours after a range of $0.0850 to $0.0875, on daily volume of about $479 million and a market capitalisation of about $14.9 billion, ranking eleventh, and remains about 88.2 percent below its May 2021 record of $0.7376. CryptoTicker put Dogecoin down 8.4 percent over seven days and 27 percent lower year to date, one of the weakest of the large tokens.

Immediate support sits at $0.0850, the 24 hour low, followed by $0.0812 and the yearly low at $0.0690, while resistance lies at $0.0875, the 24 hour high, then $0.0896 and $0.098, a supply zone where about 28 billion DOGE were last acquired.

😱 Crypto Fear and Greed Index: Sentiment Climbs to 69 in Greed

The Crypto Fear and Greed Index stands at 69 on Monday, up from 61 on Sunday and 59 on Friday, and close to last week's reading of 70, keeping sentiment firmly in Greed territory, although gauges differ in methodology, with CoinMarketCap's own index at 57 in Neutral. The eight point rise from Sunday coincides with Bitcoin's move above $84,000 and a broad altcoin rally, but US spot Bitcoin ETF outflows of $681 million last week and a firm dollar suggest that conviction beneath the move is thin.

🏛 Traditional Markets Context

US Treasury yields ended last week near the highs of the cycle, with the ten year yield at 5.248 percent on Friday, up 1.5 basis points, the two year at 4.795 percent, up 3.9 basis points, and the 30 year at 5.608 percent, leaving the 2s10s spread at about 45 basis points, after the ten year touched 5.35 percent, its highest since 2002, earlier in the week. The US bond market is closed today for Columbus Day, while equities are open. In the United Kingdom the ten year gilt yield is 5.44 percent, up 2 basis points, after reaching 5.51 percent on 8th October, its highest since July 2007, and Bank of England policymaker Megan Greene, one of three members to vote for a rise in September, said last week that early indications point to wage growth of about 3.5 percent next year and that "that worries me", with markets pricing roughly an 84 percent probability of a 25 basis point rise in November. At the Federal Reserve, Governor Christopher Waller said that further rises are likely to be needed while keeping flexibility on the pace, the Fed's Williams saw no urgency after September's increase, and the minutes of the September meeting showed that most policymakers expected another rise this year, leaving markets pricing a low chance of an October increase and a probability of roughly 69 to 81 percent for a rise in December, depending on the gauge. The dollar is near its strongest level in about 18 months, the September CPI report on Wednesday is the last major data release before the 27th to 28th October meeting, and Fed Chair Kevin Warsh speaks at the IMF meetings on Friday.

SpaceX agreed to buy up to 14 MHz of paired nationwide 800 MHz spectrum from Grain Management for about $8 billion in cash, according to the Wall Street Journal, saying that the purchase fills "one of the key remaining technical gaps" for Starlink Mobile to become "a major mobile carrier in the US", subject to approval by the Federal Communications Commission. Morgan Stanley said that the deal shows SpaceX "is going to be a more aggressive acquirer of spectrum" and expects any threat to the incumbents to emerge gradually, starting in rural markets, while Bernstein said that it keeps the option of a SpaceX tower build "very much alive", and Barclays initiated coverage of SpaceX with a Buy rating and a $254 price target, with the shares up about 4 percent.

The airline now expects full year adjusted earnings per share of $5.10 to $5.60, down from $6.50 to $7.50 in July, citing an extra $2 billion of fuel costs that takes the 2026 increase to $6 billion, with fuel expected to cost $4.25 a gallon in the fourth quarter against $3.61 in the third. Chief financial officer Erik Snell said "All of it's fuel", although demand remains strong, with nearly 60 percent of fourth quarter revenue already booked and revenue growth of about 20 percent expected, and the shares fell 3.5 percent in premarket trading.

The US Plans to Seize About $1 Billion of Iran Linked Crypto and the CFTC Moves to Separate Prediction Markets From Gambling, While French Lawmakers Back a Stablecoin Swap Tax and New York Wins Up to $35 Million From Celsius's Mashinsky

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said at Newsmax's NPolicy Summit in Washington on Thursday that the United States was "probably gonna seize a billion dollars of crypto this week", adding "We know where it is and we are isolating them", and describing an "absolute isolation campaign" that also covers the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, flight restrictions and the closing of Iran's land routes. He did not identify the wallets or the tokens involved, and it was unclear whether the amount would be additional to earlier seizures, for which Treasury figures have varied between about $500 million and $1 billion.

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission has moved to fold event contracts into its swaps regulations and to set out where prediction markets end and casino style gambling begins, according to CoinDesk, Decrypt and Cointelegraph, in proposals that the agency submitted to the White House for review on 29th September and that come as states including Arizona, Nevada and Massachusetts argue in court that such contracts are gambling under state law. Separately, Blockchain.com is seeking CFTC approval to offer prediction markets and crypto derivatives in the United States, according to CNBC.

A committee of France's National Assembly backed a tax on conversions of crypto into fiat pegged stablecoins from 1st January 2027, a 10 year carry forward for realised crypto losses and an extension of the exit tax to unrealised gains for households holding more than €800,000 of crypto who move abroad, according to Cointelegraph, with Decrypt reporting that the committee then rejected the budget as a whole. No rate has been published for the stablecoin swap tax, and the full Assembly begins examining the 2027 Finance Bill on Tuesday 13th October.

🛢️ Brent Crude: approx $103-$106/bbl (WTI approx $90-$92/bbl)

Brent crude is trading around $105 to $106 a barrel on Monday, up about 1.2 percent, after reaching $105.48 on Sunday evening with WTI at $92.44, having closed Friday near $103 as hopes of a pause in US strikes on Iran eased prices, and WTI fell back towards $90 on the Russian diesel announcement. Persian Gulf crude shipments have reportedly recovered to about 17.5 million barrels a day, roughly 98 percent of pre war levels, which has limited the rally, while the International Energy Agency has urged governments to speed up pledged diesel releases before its meeting on 15th October and the Department of Energy has approved an emergency exchange of up to 4 million barrels from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to offset hurricane related disruption. Hurricane Isaias, which reached Category 3, shut in about 63 percent of Gulf of Mexico oil output, or about 1.28 million barrels a day, and forced the evacuation of 121 platforms before a forecast landfall between Mobile Bay and Destin late on Friday, and the extent of the damage and the restart of output were not yet clear. Brent is roughly flat over the month and about 67 percent higher over the year, and Trading Economics forecasts $108.60 by the end of the quarter.

🟠 Copper: approx $6.73/lb

Copper futures rose 1.27 percent to $6.727 a pound on Monday, 6.3 percent higher over the month and 31.7 percent higher over the year, and about 1.8 percent below the record of $6.85 set in September. Supply risk remains in focus, with a snow avalanche at Codelco's El Teniente mine in Chile killing two workers and open pit operations already suspended, an escalating strike at Antofagasta's Centinela mine, where three union members have started a hunger strike and output is expected to fall in the second half of October, and Chilean output in August at its lowest since February 2011, while possible US tariffs on refined copper have led traders to ship metal to American warehouses. Demand tied to data centres, chip development and battery storage is described as strong, and Trading Economics forecasts $6.81 by the end of the quarter and $7.31 within 12 months.

⚪ Silver: approx $60.60/oz

Silver is trading at about $60.60 an ounce on Monday, down about 0.2 percent, after futures rose 1.95 percent to $60.58 on Friday. The metal is about 4.1 percent lower over the month and 15.7 percent higher over the year, and roughly 50 percent below the record of $121.64, with Trading Economics forecasting $63.82 by the end of the quarter and $75.15 within 12 months.

🪙 Platinum: Trading approx $1,690-$1,705/oz

Platinum rose 0.57 percent to about $1,703 an ounce on Monday, extending its recovery from a nine week low as Treasury yields eased from their 24 year peak and the dollar softened. The metal is about 4.3 percent lower over the month and 1.2 percent higher over the year, and roughly 42 percent below the record of $2,923.70, while the World Platinum Investment Council forecasts a 2026 market surplus, with total demand down 18 percent, Chinese jewellery demand down 32 percent and automotive demand down 4 percent. Trading Economics forecasts $1,766.61 by the end of the quarter and $2,030.24 within 12 months.

📝 MARKET NARRATIVE & ANALYSIS

Monday 12th October 2026 arrives with the Gulf and the dollar setting the tone, as Houthi missile strikes on the Riyadh and Dammam airports, Iran's rejection of the latest US response as "insufficient" and President Trump's willingness to consider joining strikes on the Houthis pushed Brent back to around $105 to $106, while the Russian diesel arrangement and the declared energy ceasefire offered only partial relief. Wall Street ended last week higher, with the Dow up 1.15 percent, ahead of the start of bank earnings on Tuesday and the September CPI report on Wednesday, with the ten year Treasury yield at about 5.25 percent and consumer sentiment at 46.3. Crypto has traded with resilience, with Bitcoin above $83,000 after a Sunday run above $84,000, the Fear and Greed Index at 69 and market depth restored a year after the flash crash, although $681 million of spot Bitcoin ETF outflows last week and nine straight days of Ether ETF outflows show that institutional demand remains thin. Beneath the price action, the perimeter work continues, with Evernorth listing on Nasdaq, Thailand opening the way for Bitcoin and Ether ETFs from 16th October, the CFTC separating prediction markets from gambling, a global watchdog urging stablecoin crisis planning and Tether's brief freeze of THORChain vaults illustrating the discretion that issuers retain. Corporate news was dominated by SpaceX's spectrum purchase, Delta's fuel driven profit warning and Ledger's supply chain losses. The key questions for the weeks ahead are whether the Gulf conflict spreads to energy infrastructure, whether Wednesday's CPI report keeps a December rate rise on the table and whether Bitcoin can hold the $80,000 to $83,000 support zone. Near term, Evernorth's debut, the IMF and World Bank meetings in Bangkok, the board meeting at Monte dei Paschi, the aftermath of Hurricane Isaias and the Nobel economics prize announcement are the main events.

💸 STABLECOINS, TOKENISATION & REGULATORY FRAMEWORKS

Tether blacklisted four THORChain vault addresses on the Tron network on Friday, freezing about 1.45 million USDT and pausing the protocol's Tron swaps and liquidity operations, before lifting the blacklist about three hours later at 15:30 UTC with balances returned intact, according to Crypto Briefing. The four vaults held 93 percent of THORChain's assets on Tron, co founder Chad Barraford said that the team received no prior warning, and 19 other wallets frozen in the same sweep remain blacklisted, while a lawsuit alleging that Tether improperly froze $2.76 million is pending and the company has used its blacklist function more than 11,000 times.

A global financial watchdog called for closer cross border information sharing and planning for a stablecoin crisis ahead of the G20 meeting, according to CoinDesk, warning that stablecoins issued jointly across jurisdictions can strand reserves in one country while redemptions hit another.

Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission finalised rules for crypto exchange traded funds on Thursday, taking effect on 16th October, initially limited to Bitcoin and Ether products that list on the Stock Exchange of Thailand, are passively managed and keep at least 80 percent average net exposure to a single asset, with fund assets held by SEC regulated custodians and no margin lending for purchases. Mutual and private funds may now invest in Thai established crypto ETFs, while foreign crypto ETFs remain closed to retail investors, and Binance Thailand chief executive Nirun Fuwattananukul noted that issuers must still complete registration, listing and custody arrangements before launch.

Standard Chartered will offer custody of Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin in Dubai and plans a collateral link with LMAX, according to CoinDesk.

The European Parliament adopted a non binding resolution on Thursday setting priorities for the Commission's first anti corruption strategy, identifying crypto assets as a possible channel for hiding criminal proceeds and calling for stronger measures to trace, freeze, confiscate and recover illicit funds, alongside action on opaque ownership structures, political financing and golden visas, according to Crypto Briefing. Wojciech Kaszycki of BTCS S.A. said that "A freeze needs a deadline, judicial review and liability for mistakes".

🤖 TECHNOLOGY, AI & INNOVATION

Ledger Traces Up to $93 Million of Losses to CryptoBilis Devices and Reports an Implant in at Least One, While Apple Is Said to Cut iPhone 18 Pro Orders by 15 Percent and AI Labs War Game a Catastrophic Event

Ledger said that all confirmed draining cases involve devices sold by the Southeast Asian reseller CryptoBilis and that an unauthorised implant has been found in at least one such device, according to DL News and CoinDesk, while up to $93 million has been traced and about $10 million frozen. Ledger had asked the reseller on Friday to pause sales and advised buyers of the past 90 days not to set up their devices, and Mark Karpelès, the former chief executive of Mt. Gox, published photographs of a device bought in Malaysia that he said contained LTE components, an antenna and an eSIM in the screen padding. Binance co founder Changpeng Zhao said that the information so far pointed to "a supply chain attack with one vendor", and MistTrack observed Tether freezing USDT linked to the thefts.

Apple has told some suppliers to cut production of components for the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, with October orders reduced by at least 15 percent from original requests, according to Nikkei Asia, which cited multiple people familiar with the matter and reported that surging memory chip costs and a $100 price rise, to $1,199 and $1,299, have weakened demand. Reuters could not verify the report and Apple did not comment, while Skyworks fell 6.41 percent on Friday and HP fell 6.04 percent after a filing pointed to a mid single digit decline in 2027 PC unit volumes, with Nikkei noting that technology companies buying advanced chipmaking capacity and memory for AI data centres has caused shortages and price rises expected to shrink the PC and smartphone markets this year.

Executives at Anthropic, OpenAI and other AI companies are privately war gaming the political fallout of a catastrophic AI event, such as a large cyberattack on banking, power or water, expecting a major incident within six to 12 months and a push by Democrats to curb AI after the 3rd November midterms, according to Axios as reported by Decrypt. OpenAI said that it "conducts preparedness exercises where teams discuss and work through a range of potential scenarios" that "are not treated as inevitable", Anthropic declined to comment, and the report noted that Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Greg Casar sponsor a bill to ban artificial superintelligence.

OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman discussed a projection of $70 billion of annualised revenue by the end of the year in a Bloomberg appearance, according to Crypto Briefing, which noted that the figure uses the same accounting as Anthropic, including sales made through cloud partners, against the $50 billion run rate reported for September. Separately, IREN has signed a multiyear cloud agreement with Anthropic, according to CoinDesk.

On the infrastructure side, Zcash developers have set a January target for quantum resistant payments following the recent "bunker mode" warnings, the Sui Foundation is investing $30 million in DATA Network as the AI data protocol migrates to Sui, and the Trump administration outlined a $6 billion science initiative covering quantum computing and AI, including a $215 million quantum prize.

🌍 GLOBAL MONETARY POLICY & MACROECONOMICS

In the United States, preliminary University of Michigan consumer sentiment fell to 46.3 in October from 48.1 in September and below the 47.6 forecast, with survey director Joanne Hsu saying that frustration over the cost of living "continues to mount". The week ahead brings the September CPI report on Wednesday, producer prices and retail sales on Thursday and industrial production on Friday, alongside the start of the bank earnings season, with JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo and Citigroup due on Tuesday and Bank of America and Morgan Stanley on Wednesday, while the IMF and World Bank annual meetings open in Bangkok. In Canada, employment fell by 68,000 in September and the unemployment rate rose to 6.5 percent.

In Europe, S&P affirmed the United Kingdom's sovereign rating at AA with a stable outlook on Friday evening, and the UK Chancellor is reportedly planning more support for energy costs through the warm homes discount, with the fiscal target largely unaffected. The European Union is set to approve its largest Russia sanctions package since the conflict began, targeting missile production, and EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic announced a shared understanding in Beijing to moderate Chinese hybrid car exports, which Newsquawk reports as a cap of 350,000 vehicles a year from 1st December, rising 6 percent in the second year and applying for four years, with other reports suggesting that exports would fall by more than half. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is due to speak at 12:30 BST to outline changes at the CDU after poor results in September's elections.

In Asia, the Shanghai Composite fell 0.43 percent to 3,797 and the Shenzhen Component fell 2.03 percent on Monday, as the EU deal on hybrid vehicle exports and the limited effect of state support weighed on sentiment, while the Hang Seng rose about 0.3 percent. The People's Bank of China set the dollar yuan fixing at 6.7313 against 6.6977 expected, China released draft rules to lower the entry threshold for equity mutual funds, the KOSPI fell as technology heavyweights declined after North Korea's latest missile launch prompted South Korea to convene an emergency meeting, and China releases CPI and PPI on 14th October.

🔴 ELEVATED RISKS: Technology, Geopolitical & Macro

•        Gulf Escalation Threatens Aviation and Energy Supply: Houthi strikes on the Riyadh and Dammam airports, Iran's threat to hit "cables, data centers, AI facilities and other sites in the region" and President Trump's openness to joining strikes on the Houthis raise the risk of a wider war and an oil spike, with Brent already near $106.

•        The Russian Diesel Deal Carries Political and Sanctions Risk: Easing sanctions on Russian diesel until April 2027 has drawn criticism from President Zelenskyy and senior Democrats, Russia has not formally accepted the energy ceasefire, and analysts expect only a small effect on prices.

•        Record Yields and a Hawkish Backdrop Persist: A ten year Treasury yield near 5.25 percent, a UK gilt yield of 5.44 percent, consumer sentiment at 46.3 and a CPI report on Wednesday leave equities and crypto exposed to a hot inflation reading.

•        Hardware Wallet Supply Chain Risk and Thin Crypto Demand: Up to $93 million of losses linked to CryptoBilis devices, $681 million of weekly spot Bitcoin ETF outflows and a nine day Ether ETF outflow streak show fragile confidence beneath the weekend rally.

🟢 POSITIVE DEVELOPMENTS: Institutional & Regulatory

•        Crypto Holds Its Gains Into the Anniversary: Bitcoin above $83,000, a Fear and Greed reading of 69 and the recovery of Bitcoin and Ether market depth a year after the flash crash show improved resilience.

•        Institutional Access Keeps Widening: Evernorth's Nasdaq debut as the largest listed XRP treasury, Thailand's Bitcoin and Ether ETF rules from 16th October and Meanwhile's $37.5 million raise show regulated routes expanding.

•        Regulators Are Defining the Perimeter: The CFTC's prediction market proposals, the European Parliament's anti corruption priorities and the global watchdog's call for stablecoin crisis planning point towards clearer rules.

•        Underlying Demand Remains Visible: Wall Street's weekly gains, Humana's restored four star rating and Delta's forward bookings, with nearly 60 percent of fourth quarter revenue already booked, underline resilient activity.
