📊 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Iran War Day 210 opens Friday 25th September 2026 with the fire pause entering its sixteenth day and markets caught between a relentless rise in bond yields and fresh hopes of a diplomatic breakthrough in the Gulf, as reports that US and Iranian negotiators are exploring a phased agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and lift the US naval blockade trimmed an earlier surge in oil. Brent crude still settled 4.37 percent higher at $107.59 a barrel on Thursday before easing towards $105 in Asian trading on Friday, while the ten year Treasury yield climbed a further 7.8 basis points to around 5.19 percent and the 30 year yield reached 5.48 percent, its highest level since 2004, as New York Fed President John Williams and Philadelphia Fed President Anna Paulson joined the chorus of officials signalling that further tightening may be required. Wall Street finished broadly flat, with the S&P 500 down 0.07 percent, the Nasdaq Composite 0.06 percent lower and the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.32 percent, while markets priced around a 69 percent probability of a Federal Reserve rate rise in October.

Bitcoin has steadied just above $84,000 on Friday, broadly flat over 24 hours, as approximately $15.6 billion of quarterly Bitcoin options expired on Deribit at 08:00 UTC and US spot Bitcoin ETFs extended their run of net inflows to a fifth consecutive session, taking in around $347 million on 23rd September. Total crypto market capitalisation is holding at around $2.97 trillion and the Crypto Fear and Greed Index remains at 71 in Greed territory; elsewhere in digital assets, exchange Bitget disclosed a $352 million breach of its hot and warm wallets, the Federal Reserve published its first proposals to implement the GENIUS Act for bank supervised stablecoin issuers, and New York Attorney General Letitia James sued Polymarket, alleging that it operates an illegal gambling business.

Eight dominant narratives define Friday 25th September: (1) Bitget Discloses a $352 Million Hack of Its Hot and Warm Wallets as Its User Protection Fund Covers the Loss; (2) The US and Iran Explore a Phased Deal to Reopen Hormuz and End the US Blockade as Brent Settles Above $107; (3) The 30 Year Treasury Yield Hits Its Highest Level Since 2004 as Williams and Paulson Back Further Fed Tightening; (4) Bitcoin Holds $84,000 Through a $15.6 Billion Options Expiry as ETF Inflows Extend to a Fifth Session; (5) The Federal Reserve Unveils Its First GENIUS Act Proposals for Stablecoin Reserves and Capital; (6) New York Sues Polymarket as States Intensify Their Challenge to Prediction Markets; (7) Akamai Signs an $11.6 Billion Computing Agreement With Anthropic as Oracle Invokes Force Majeure on Its New Mexico Stargate Campus; (8) UK Banks Complete the First Live Transactions Under the Great British Tokenised Deposit Initiative.

🔥 HOT OFF THE PRESS

Bitget Loses $352 Million in a Wallet Breach as the US and Iran Weigh a Phased Deal to Reopen Hormuz

Cryptocurrency exchange Bitget disclosed on Thursday that around $351.6 million had been moved out of its hot and warm wallets after attackers compromised a critical backend system within its wallet infrastructure, with chief executive Gracy Chen explaining that the intruders used that access to spoof transaction data and trigger the exchange's own authorisation process, rather than stealing private keys. Bitget said its cold storage remained fully secure, that user balances were unaffected and that its User Protection Fund, which holds more than $464 million, was sufficient to cover the entire loss; deposits and trading have continued while withdrawals remain suspended pending a security review, the exchange has stated that no further unauthorised transfers are possible, and Bitget has said it suspects North Korean hackers were responsible, making the incident one of the largest exchange thefts of 2026.

US and Iranian negotiators meeting in New York on the margins of the UN General Assembly, with Qatar acting as mediator, are exploring a phased arrangement under which Iran would allow shipping to transit the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for Washington lifting its economic blockade, according to Reuters, with a senior Iranian official stating that one way forward would be to solve the crisis in stages, the first being to end the blockade and reopen Hormuz. Sequencing remains the central obstacle, as Tehran seeks blockade relief before reopening the waterway while Washington wants guarantees of passage first; regional sources indicate that Iran is willing to defer its demand for transit fees to a separate agreement but insists on retaining administrative control of the strait, while President Trump has suggested a deal could come after the 3rd November midterm elections and former US negotiator Dennis Ross has put the chance of an agreement before the vote at around 30 percent. Regional tensions persisted on Thursday, with Iran warning that it would open a new front in the event of fresh US attacks and the Saudi led coalition reporting that it had intercepted six ballistic missiles fired by Yemen's Houthi movement towards Taif and the Red Sea port of Yanbu, a critical outlet for Saudi crude while Hormuz routes remain disrupted.

📖 QUICK READ

Friday 25th September 2026, Iran War Day 210, opens with the fire pause in its sixteenth day and markets weighing reports of a phased US-Iran deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz against a further rise in Treasury yields, with the ten year yield at around 5.19 percent and the 30 year yield at 5.48 percent after Fed officials John Williams and Anna Paulson both indicated that more tightening may be needed. Brent crude settled 4.37 percent higher at $107.59 on Thursday before slipping around 1.4 percent to near $105 on Friday, Wall Street's three main indices closed within 0.32 percent of unchanged, the FTSE 100 fell 0.2 percent to 10,679.99 and Japan's Nikkei 225 gained around 1.2 percent on Friday as chip stocks rallied, while in Washington Presidents Trump and Xi agreed to establish a new US-China Board of Trade.

Bitcoin is trading around $84,100 to $84,700 after holding above $84,000 through Friday's options expiry, with Ethereum near $2,670 to $2,705, XRP between roughly $1.53 and $1.56, Solana around $116 to $118, Cardano near $0.248 to $0.254 and Dogecoin between $0.094 and $0.097; total crypto market capitalisation is steady at approximately $2.97 trillion, with the Fear and Greed Index at 71. Elsewhere, gold has eased to around $4,272 an ounce and silver to about $63.36, pushing the gold to silver ratio above 67, platinum has slipped to around $1,747, copper is holding near $6.71 a pound, and the yen has strengthened to around 158.1 per dollar after Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama disclosed that President Trump had raised concerns about the currency's weakness.

💬 QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Looking ahead, if conditions evolve as I expect, some modest further tightening may be warranted.”

~ Anna Paulson, President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, speaking on Thursday as the 30 year Treasury yield climbed to its highest level since 2004

Wall Street Ends Flat as a Hormuz Deal Report Offsets a Fresh Climb in Treasury Yields

US equities recovered from sharp early losses on Thursday to close little changed, with the S&P 500 slipping 0.07 percent to around 7,703, the Nasdaq Composite easing 0.06 percent to around 26,926 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average falling 0.32 percent to around 51,372, after the indices had been down as much as 0.5 to 0.8 percent at midday before Reuters reported that US and Iranian negotiators were exploring a phased agreement on Hormuz; the small cap Russell 2000 ended 0.17 percent lower. Corporate news drove sharp individual moves, with MGM Resorts falling close to 10 percent after board member Barry Diller withdrew his $18 billion proposal to take the casino operator private, TD Synnex dropping 13 percent despite record earnings and Darden Restaurants lower after a first quarter miss, while Everpure surged 18.7 percent on accelerating revenue guidance, Charles River Laboratories gained 5.4 percent following its investor day and Agilent Technologies added 3.7 percent; after the close, Costco reported fiscal fourth quarter earnings of $6.75 a share against expectations of $6.55, with net sales up 11.2 percent to $93.9 billion and digital comparable sales up 19.5 percent, and its shares edged higher in after-hours trading.

In London, the FTSE 100 fell 0.2 percent, or 25.27 points, to 10,679.99 on Thursday as elevated government bond yields and another jump in oil prices revived inflation concerns, while the more domestically focused FTSE 250 lost 0.9 percent to 24,154.32 and AIM shed 1.1 percent. BP rose 2.6 percent and Shell 1.7 percent on the back of higher crude prices, and JD Sports Fashion rebounded 3.4 percent, while Rentokil Initial fell 4.3 percent, Computacenter 4.4 percent and Vistry 3.1 percent after announcing a restructuring targeting 12,000 annual completions; outside the index, Raspberry Pi soared around 20 percent after record first half results, and in Europe the CAC 40 lost 0.5 percent and the DAX 0.6 percent. In Asia on Friday, Japan's Nikkei 225 and the Topix each rose around 1.2 percent by midday as chip stocks led the market, with Tokyo Electron up around 4 percent, Ibiden around 5.5 percent higher after its 15 percent surge on Thursday and Advantest up about 2.5 percent, supported by buying ahead of Monday's dividend qualification deadline, while SoftBank Group slipped around 2.5 percent on concerns over power delays at a US data centre project; mainland China, South Korea and Taiwan were closed for holidays.

📈 MARKET OVERVIEW TOTAL CRYPTO MARKET CAP: APPROXIMATELY $2.97 TRILLION | Friday 25th September 2026

Total crypto market capitalisation is holding at around $2.97 trillion on Friday, broadly steady over the past 24 hours after Wednesday's roughly 3 percent pullback, with trading volume across the asset class easing to around $107 billion as markets paused ahead of the quarterly options expiry, and Bitcoin dominance unchanged at around 57.3 percent against Ethereum's 11.1 percent. Most of the largest cryptocurrencies moved by less than 2 percent, but smaller capitalisation tokens saw sharp gains, with Quant rising around 39 percent and Ondo around 27 percent, while BENQI more than doubled; the stabilisation came as the ten year Treasury yield eased around 2 basis points to 5.17 percent in Asian trading after climbing more than 20 basis points over the previous two sessions.

₿ BITCOIN (BTC) approx $84,100-$84,700

Bitcoin is trading between roughly $84,100 and $84,700 on Friday, broadly flat over the past 24 hours after dipping below $84,000 earlier in the week, as a pause in the global bond sell-off allowed the market to stabilise following Wednesday's liquidation driven decline. The token remains around 8.6 percent higher over the past seven days and carries a market capitalisation of approximately $1.70 trillion, and it is on course to record gains in each of July, August and September, a three month winning streak last achieved in 2012, having recently moved back above its one year moving average, with analysts now watching whether it can also sustain a position above the 200 day average.

Institutional demand has continued to absorb the macro shock, with US spot Bitcoin ETFs recording approximately $347 million of net inflows on 23rd September, the fifth consecutive session of positive flows, led by BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust with around $166 million and Fidelity's Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund with around $143 million. Inflows over the five sessions now total roughly $1.3 billion, lifting cumulative net inflows into the products to around $56.9 billion, while spot trading volumes have risen around 121 percent from their August lows; Glassnode has characterised the current recovery as driven by spot demand rather than leverage, noting that short term holders have returned to profit but are selling only lightly, a pattern that resembles the recovery of late 2023.

The principal headwind remains the rise in inflation adjusted yields, with analysis of Treasury markets showing that the ten year real yield climbed from 2.63 percent to 2.76 percent during Wednesday's sell-off, accounting for around 13 of the 15 basis points gained by the nominal ten year yield. Because Bitcoin offers no yield of its own, higher real returns on government bonds raise the opportunity cost of holding it, and analysts have warned that a further move in the ten year real yield towards 2.85 to 2.90 percent could push the token back towards the $77,000 level that Glassnode identifies as the True Market Mean, whereas a stabilisation in real yields would allow buyers to target resistance near $96,700.

Friday's quarterly expiry on Deribit covered around 182,000 BTC of contracts with a notional value of approximately $15.6 billion, split between 106,200 calls and 75,900 puts for a put to call ratio of 0.71, with the maximum pain point at $76,000, well below the prevailing price, and the largest open interest at the $70,000 strike, while call positions clustered at $90,000 and $100,000 and put protection at $60,000 and $75,000. Implied volatility entering the event was notably subdued, with Deribit's DVOL index at around 38.1, and traders now face a sequence of further tests within hours of settlement, including US durable goods orders at 12:30 UTC, the final University of Michigan consumer sentiment and inflation expectations survey at 14:00 UTC and the CME Bitcoin futures settlement at 15:00 UTC.

Glassnode places Bitcoin's nearest support in the $84,000 to $85,000 zone, where long term holders accumulated significant positions, followed by the $80,000 to $82,000 breakout area and the $77,000 True Market Mean, with resistance at $86,000 to $87,000 and a heavier supply band between $88,000 and $90,300. FxPro's chief market analyst has described the recent decline as a temporary pause on the way up, arguing that the uptrend remains intact after the token met resistance near a previously significant support level, although several strategists caution that a daily close above $87,000 will be needed to revive momentum towards $90,000, and that the direction of real yields ahead of next week's PCE inflation data is likely to matter more than crypto specific catalysts.

⧮ ETHEREUM (ETH) approx $2,670-$2,705

Ethereum is trading between roughly $2,670 and $2,705 on Friday, broadly flat over the past 24 hours after a broad correction took the token down from around $2,800 to approximately $2,673, as sellers again defended the $2,800 area that has capped two recent attempts at a breakout. Ether remains around 8 percent higher over the past week and carries a market capitalisation of about $330 billion, representing roughly 11.1 percent of the total crypto market, and it continues to trade well above the levels at which it began its September advance.

Institutional flows have remained positive through the pullback, with US spot Ether ETFs taking in around $105 million of net inflows on 23rd September, the fourth consecutive session of inflows, led by BlackRock's iShares Ethereum Trust with $50.8 million and Fidelity's Ethereum Fund with $41.3 million, while Grayscale's Ethereum Mini Trust recorded the only outflow of the day at $4.09 million. The products now hold around $17.5 billion in total net assets, equivalent to roughly 5.37 percent of Ether's market capitalisation, with cumulative net inflows of approximately $13.79 billion, underscoring the growing role of regulated vehicles in the asset's ownership base.

On the charts, Ether has printed a higher high for the first time since its August 2025 peak, breaking above the $2,438 resistance zone that had defined its range for more than a year, and analyst Benjamin Cowen has noted that the move brings the token back into alignment with its long term logarithmic regression band. Technicians nonetheless point to a bearish divergence on the daily chart, with price making new highs while momentum indicators have declined, a pattern that often precedes a period of consolidation and which argues for caution until the $2,800 barrier is decisively cleared.

The network's role as the leading settlement layer for tokenised real world assets continues to deepen, with Cathie Wood's Ark Invest partnering with Securitize to make its $1.3 billion ARK Venture Fund, whose holdings include private companies such as OpenAI and Stripe, available in tokenised form on the Ethereum blockchain. The move adds to a growing roster of institutional funds issued on Ethereum and reinforces the argument that demand for the network is increasingly being driven by asset managers and tokenisation platforms, while a new BlackRock report has argued that the convergence of artificial intelligence and digital assets, as autonomous agents purchase services and transfer funds, is creating underappreciated demand for blockchain infrastructure.

Immediate support lies at $2,600 to $2,650, a zone that traders regard as critical to maintaining the bullish structure, followed by the $2,544 to $2,563 area where the 20 day exponential moving average converges with the 100 week average; on the upside, $2,762 to $2,800 remains the key resistance band. A decisive daily close above $2,800 would, in several analysts' view, open the way towards the psychologically significant $3,000 level, whereas a break below $2,600 would risk a deeper retracement and suggest that the momentum divergence has begun to play out.

🔷 XRP (XRP) approx $1.53-$1.56

XRP is trading between roughly $1.53 and $1.56 on Friday, up around 2 to 3 percent over the past 24 hours and one of the stronger performers among the largest cryptocurrencies, as the token recovered back above $1.50 after sliding to around $1.48 on Thursday from its peak near $1.64. XRP remains around 16 percent higher over the past week and carries a market capitalisation of approximately $97.8 billion, ranking fifth among digital assets, and it is still trading roughly 15 percent above its level of around $1.30 on 17th September.

Derivatives positioning shows traders leaning heavily into the recovery, with around 70 percent of Binance's top trader accounts positioned long against 30 percent short, giving long to short ratios of roughly 2.65 by accounts and 2.6 by positions, while 24 hour trading volume reached around $8.33 billion during Thursday's sell-off. Such concentrated bullish positioning can provide fuel for a rebound, but it also leaves the market vulnerable to a further wave of long liquidations should support give way, a risk that traders note has increased as open interest expanded during the September rally.

Thursday's decline was sharp and volume heavy, with large red candles on the 15 minute chart pushing XRP below $1.56 and then $1.54, before a lower wick near $1.48 signalled buying interest at support, and short term momentum indicators including the directional movement index and the MACD have since flipped positive. Analysts note that the rejection near $1.60 to $1.64 came at the same level that capped the token's rally in March, reinforcing the importance of that area as the gateway to a sustained breakout and making a clean move through it the key test for bulls in the coming sessions.

On the development front, XRP Ledger contributors have introduced an AI assisted security initiative designed to strengthen vulnerability detection before code reaches mainnet, following the network stability amendment activated on 11th September and the v3.3.0 release in August, which brought six new amendments including confidential transfers and atomic transactions. The emphasis on security and institutional grade features comes as the ledger competes with a widening field of networks for payment and settlement business, and as observers debate whether XRP can keep pace with the capital rotating into Ethereum and Solana during the current phase of the market cycle.

Immediate support sits at $1.48 to $1.50, with a more significant zone at $1.39 to $1.41 where trading volume has been heavily concentrated; on the upside, resistance lies at $1.54 to $1.56, followed by the prior highs at $1.59 to $1.60 and $1.64 to $1.65. A daily close above $1.60 would, in traders' view, revive the breakout and open the way towards $1.70, while a failure to hold $1.48 would expose the $1.40 area and risk unwinding a larger share of the September advance.

◎ SOLANA (SOL) approx $116-$118

Solana is trading between roughly $116 and $118 on Friday, up around 1.5 percent over the past 24 hours after rebounding from the $113 area tested during Wednesday's pullback, and it remains close to 11 percent higher over the past week with a market capitalisation of approximately $69.2 billion. The token is once again pressing against the $116 to $123 resistance band that has capped its recent advance, with traders watching whether the approach of the network's largest ever protocol upgrade can provide the catalyst for a decisive break higher.

Mainnet activation of Alpenglow, Solana's consensus overhaul, is now pencilled in for around 28th September following its move to public testnet, with the upgrade set to replace the existing TowerBFT mechanism with a new voting protocol known as Votor and cut transaction finality from around 12.8 seconds to under 150 milliseconds. If delivered on schedule, the upgrade would address one of the most persistent criticisms of the network's performance and position it more competitively for latency sensitive applications such as trading, payments and automated agent activity, although developers have cautioned that timelines for such complex changes can slip.

The ecosystem is also strengthening its institutional footprint, with the Solana Foundation recruiting experienced professionals from Binance and Polygon to lead its institutional adoption and payments efforts, and Ondo Finance deepening the integration of its yield bearing US Treasury token, USDY, into Solana's decentralised finance ecosystem. Application layer demand appears to be building ahead of the upgrade window, with the network recording around 23.2 million AI agent transactions over the trailing four weeks, a sign that autonomous software is emerging as a meaningful source of on-chain activity.

Some analysts are nonetheless urging caution after a seven day rally of more than 22 percent at its peak, arguing that the easy money on this leg has largely been made and that much of the near term upside from Alpenglow may already be priced in. The token's higher beta also leaves it more exposed than Bitcoin or Ether to any renewed deterioration in risk appetite, particularly if Treasury yields resume their climb or if the upgrade encounters technical delays.

Support is positioned around $114.67, with a deeper floor near $106.95, while resistance lies between $116 and $123.35; a decisive break through that zone would, in analysts' view, open targets at $137.65 and then $144.76, with $150 emerging as the consensus upside objective should both levels give way. Conversely, a failure to hold $114 would risk a return towards the $105 to $110 region, where buyers stepped in during the previous consolidation earlier in the month.

₳ CARDANO (ADA) approx $0.248-$0.254

Cardano is trading between $0.248 and $0.254 on Friday, up around 4 percent over the past 24 hours and among the strongest large cap performers of the session, after dipping to around $0.235 on Thursday in a 5.75 percent decline that briefly tested the resilience of its September breakout. The token remains around 17.6 percent higher over the past week and carries a market capitalisation of approximately $9.5 billion, and it closed last week with a gain of around 23 percent, establishing $0.23 as a new support level after clearing prior resistance.

Institutional access to the network has widened, with digital asset custody provider Fireblocks adding support for Cardano Native Tokens, allowing banks, exchanges and asset managers to hold and move tokens issued on Cardano within its enterprise grade security infrastructure. The integration lowers a significant operational barrier for institutions seeking exposure to the ecosystem and builds on the Cardano Foundation's recent admission to Mastercard's Crypto Partner Program and the launch of IndiaChain by Trivolve on mainnet, a project targeting more than 10 million agricultural settlements.

On the developer side, the Cardano Foundation has released Mesmo, a shared library supporting Python, Go, Rust and JavaScript that allows developers to access core network functionality directly without requiring the Java Virtual Machine. By widening the range of languages that can interact natively with the protocol, the library is intended to reduce the friction that has historically limited the size of Cardano's developer community, a key consideration as the network prepares for the Linear Leios throughput upgrade scheduled for the fourth quarter.

From a structural perspective, ADA remains within a descending channel that has persisted since mid-2025, although it has recovered around 70.5 percent from its low of $0.1382 and now trades above the channel's midpoint but still below its upper boundary. Analysts describe the $0.29 level as the first horizontal barrier above channel resistance, and argue that a confirmed upside breakout from the channel, rather than further gains within it, would be required to signal a genuine change in the token's longer term trend.

Immediate support lies at around $0.237, a pivot that requires a successful retest to be confirmed, followed by the $0.23 breakout level and the $0.19 to $0.20 region, while resistance sits at the upper channel boundary, then $0.29 and $0.333. A sustained move above $0.26 would bring the $0.29 barrier into play and, beyond that, the $0.30 level last seen earlier in 2026, whereas a close back below $0.23 would suggest that the week's breakout has failed.

💕 DOGECOIN (DOGE) approx $0.094-$0.097

Dogecoin is trading between $0.094 and $0.097 on Friday, up around 1 to 2 percent over the past 24 hours as the token consolidated above its 200 day moving average near $0.093, following a rally from $0.087 to above $0.10 and Wednesday's sharp retreat. Dogecoin remains around 14 percent higher over the past week and holds a market capitalisation of approximately $15 billion, with bulls so far successfully defending the long term average that many traders regard as the dividing line between a renewed uptrend and a return to the summer range.

On-chain data from Santiment show that wallets which acquired DOGE over the past year are carrying an average unrealised loss of around 19.26 percent, a condition that has historically reduced near term selling pressure, as holders showing losses tend to be less inclined to sell into modest rallies. Analysts note that the same data can cut both ways, however, since a recovery towards holders' breakeven levels may encourage some to exit, creating overhead supply in the $0.10 to $0.12 region.

Market participants are also monitoring whale activity after a transfer of around 250 million DOGE, worth approximately $23.2 million, was moved to Binance, a pattern often associated with preparations to sell. The transfer contrasts with earlier reports of large holders accumulating during dips, and traders will be watching exchange inflows closely over the coming days for signs of whether large holders are distributing into strength or simply repositioning.

Analysts describe the current set-up as a neutral inflection point, in which the outcome depends on whether sustained demand can absorb any whale selling, with the memecoin's high beta meaning it is likely to amplify moves in Bitcoin and in broader risk appetite. A calmer bond market and a successful hold of Bitcoin's support zone would favour a renewed attempt on $0.10, while a further rise in real yields could quickly return memecoins to the forefront of profit taking.

Critical support sits at $0.093, the 200 day moving average, followed by $0.090 and then $0.087, the base of the September rally, while resistance lies at $0.100 and then $0.104 to $0.106. A daily close back above $0.100 would restore the breakout narrative and open a path towards $0.11, whereas a break below $0.093 would weaken the technical structure and risk a retreat towards the $0.087 area.

😱 Crypto Fear and Greed Index: Sentiment Holds in Greed at 71 as Markets Stabilise

The Crypto Fear and Greed Index stands at 71 on Friday, unchanged from Thursday and still in Greed territory, below the Extreme Greed reading of 78 recorded earlier in the week but well above the 56 registered a week ago. The steadiness of the reading through a volatile week, marked by a climb in Treasury yields to multi decade highs, a $352 million exchange hack and a major options expiry, suggests that investors continue to view the recent pullback as a consolidation within a broader recovery, although sentiment remains highly sensitive to the path of real yields and could soften quickly should Bitcoin lose its $84,000 support.

🏛 Traditional Markets Context

The bond market remained the dominant force on Thursday, with the five year Treasury yield holding above 5 percent at around 5.05 percent, the two year yield rising to around 4.92 percent and the 30 year yield touching around 5.48 percent, its highest level since 2004, as stronger than expected jobless claims and new home sales data reinforced expectations of further Federal Reserve tightening. Analysts stressed that the move has been driven primarily by a rise in real yields rather than inflation expectations alone, a distinction that matters for non-yielding assets such as gold and Bitcoin; nonetheless, equity markets proved resilient, with the S&P 500 recovering almost all of its intraday losses, suggesting that investors remain willing to buy weakness while geopolitical headlines offer the prospect of lower energy prices.

Ondo Brings BlackRock Portfolio Strategies Onchain as IBM Connects Banks to Swift's Blockchain Ledger

Ondo Finance has launched Ondo Intelligent Portfolios, three tokenised model portfolios built on investment strategies developed by BlackRock, comprising a high income strategy focused on bond exposure (BLKHIon), a diversified growth strategy with a mixed asset allocation (BLKDIGon) and a high growth strategy with broader exposure (BLKGRWon), with exposure spanning stocks, bonds and Bitcoin exchange traded funds depending on the strategy. The tokens, issued by Ondo Global Markets, are available only to eligible non-US investors in permitted jurisdictions, consistent with Ondo's existing tokenised stock distribution model, and the announcement lifted the ONDO token by around 18 to 27 percent, marking one of the most significant steps yet by the world's largest asset manager in bringing model portfolio construction onto public blockchains.

IBM has connected its Digital Asset Haven platform to Swift's blockchain based shared ledger through a beta ISO 20022 messaging adapter, allowing banks to instruct tokenised deposit transactions using standard payment messages rather than blockchain specific workflows, and has launched an on-premises beta of the platform for IBM Z and LinuxONE systems, protected by IBM Crypto Express hardware security modules. Swift's network connects more than 12,500 financial institutions across over 200 markets, more than 40 institutions contributed to the ledger's design and 17 are currently participating in its tokenised deposit pilot; elsewhere, tokenised capital markets infrastructure firm HIFI has raised $37 million in a Series A round, and Bitcoin miner Hut 8 has won an auction for Poolin's Texas data centre facilities with a $140 million bid.

New York Sues Polymarket as EU Watchdogs Warn Quantum Computing Poses an Imminent Threat to Blockchain Encryption

New York Attorney General Letitia James filed a lawsuit on Thursday against Polymarket, alleging that the prediction market operates an illegal gambling business without a licence from the State Gaming Commission, has advertised sports betting since July 2025 and has allowed users as young as 18 to wager, despite state law requiring mobile sports bettors to be at least 21, thereby depriving New York of revenues that fund education and public benefit programmes. The action follows similar New York suits against Kalshi two months ago and against Coinbase and Gemini over sports, entertainment and election contracts, and comes as states including Arizona, Massachusetts and Nevada pursue their own cases, setting up a direct clash with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission's claim of exclusive federal jurisdiction over prediction markets; Polymarket, valued at more than $20 billion, has responded with a countersuit, and its chief legal officer Neal Kumar said the company had chosen to engage with the state directly.

In Europe, the Joint Committee of the European Supervisory Authorities, comprising the EBA, ESMA and EIOPA, warned in its Autumn 2026 Risks and Vulnerabilities report that advanced quantum computers could break the cryptography underpinning blockchains before the technology achieves commercial viability, stating that threats could materialise earlier than any viable commercial application. The watchdogs estimated that around 6.9 million Bitcoin, worth roughly $586 billion, sit in older pay to public key addresses or reused addresses whose public keys are already visible on-chain, highlighted the risk of harvest now, decrypt later attacks, and pointed to the European Commission's post-quantum cryptography roadmap, which calls on member states to begin transitioning by the end of 2026 and to protect high risk use cases by 2030, noting that any Bitcoin migration would require network wide consensus.

Gold fell 0.3 percent to around $4,272 an ounce on Thursday and has remained under pressure on Friday, as a firmer dollar, Treasury yields at their highest levels since 2007 and further signals from Federal Reserve officials that rates may rise again increased the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding bullion. The metal's year on year gain has narrowed to around 13.9 percent, the smallest margin in more than a year and far below the 95.6 percent recorded in late January, while analysts have highlighted an unusual inverse relationship between gold and oil since the Iran conflict escalated, with higher crude prices strengthening the case for tighter policy rather than bolstering gold's appeal as an inflation hedge; physical demand nonetheless remains firm, with coin and bar premiums holding up and central bank accumulation continuing to anchor underlying support.

🛢️ Brent Crude: approx $104-$106/bbl (WTI approx $93-$95/bbl)

Oil extended its rebound on Thursday, with Brent crude settling 4.37 percent higher at $107.59 a barrel and West Texas Intermediate gaining 3.55 percent to $95.41, having been up as much as 5 percent before reports of a possible phased US-Iran deal on Hormuz prompted traders to pare gains; Brent has since slipped around 1.4 percent to near $105 in Asian trading on Friday, snapping a two day rally. Saudi Arabia has been increasing crude volumes through its East-West Pipeline to the Red Sea port of Yanbu, although tanker loadings there had yet to resume, and Brent remains around 21 percent higher over the past month and more than 50 percent above its level a year ago, leaving energy prices a central input to inflation forecasts on both sides of the Atlantic.

🟠 Copper: approx $6.68-$6.74/lb

Copper futures were little changed at around $6.71 a pound on Friday, down 0.13 percent on the day but still up around 1.7 percent over the past month and more than 42 percent over the past year, as the pull of tight supply offset the drag from a stronger dollar and rising Treasury yields. Mine suspensions at Escondida in Chile and operational difficulties in Indonesia and the Democratic Republic of Congo have reduced expected annual production by around 600,000 tonnes, while demand from power grids, AI data centres and the defence sector remains robust; forecasters expect prices to hover near $6.63 by the end of the quarter, but see scope for a rise towards $7.27 over the coming twelve months should supply disruptions persist.

⚪ Silver: approx $63.00-$63.80/oz

Silver fell 1.66 percent to around $63.36 an ounce on Thursday, underperforming gold and pushing the gold to silver ratio up to around 67.5 from 66.2, as the metal absorbed what analysts described as a double hit: the same real rate headwind that is pressuring gold, compounded by a growth and fabrication discount reflecting concerns about the impact of higher borrowing costs on industrial demand. Longer term supporters point to silver's structural supply deficit, driven by demand from solar panels, electronics and grid infrastructure, arguing that the widening of the ratio has historically presented value for patient buyers, while physical premiums on coins and bars have remained firm despite the softness in paper markets.

🪙 Platinum: Trading approx $1,735-$1,760/oz

Platinum slipped 0.53 percent to around $1,747 an ounce on Thursday, extending Wednesday's sharp decline as the firmer dollar that followed the Federal Reserve's quarter point rise to a 3.75 to 4.00 percent range, its first increase since 2023, continued to weigh on dollar denominated metals. The metal has now given back a substantial portion of its gains from earlier in the month, although its longer term fundamentals remain supported by expected structural deficits and by demand from autocatalysts and hydrogen technologies, leaving it sensitive to any shift in the outlook for US interest rates and global industrial activity.

📝 MARKET NARRATIVE & ANALYSIS

Friday 25th September 2026 finds markets steadier after a turbulent week, as the prospect of a phased US-Iran agreement on Hormuz offered a counterweight to Treasury yields at multi decade highs and a chorus of Federal Reserve officials signalling further tightening. The balance of forces is finely poised: on one side, a fifth consecutive session of spot Bitcoin ETF inflows, the Federal Reserve's first GENIUS Act proposals, BlackRock strategies arriving onchain through Ondo, IBM's connection to Swift's ledger and live tokenised deposit transactions among UK banks all point to deepening institutional integration of digital assets; on the other, a $352 million exchange breach, a 30 year Treasury yield at its highest since 2004, Brent crude above $105 and an escalating state level assault on prediction markets argue for caution, making Friday's durable goods and consumer sentiment data, next Wednesday's PCE inflation report and the planned activation of Solana's Alpenglow upgrade important tests of whether Bitcoin can hold its $84,000 to $85,000 support zone.

💸 STABLECOINS, TOKENISATION & REGULATORY FRAMEWORKS

The Federal Reserve Board on Thursday requested public comment on two proposals to establish a regulatory framework for payment stablecoin issuers under its supervision, implementing the GENIUS Act signed into law last year: the first would require issuers to back their tokens fully with permissible assets such as short term Treasury bills and other high quality liquid assets, set standardised capital requirements covering credit and operational risks, impose risk management and safekeeping standards and clarify which stablecoin activities Board supervised banks may undertake, while the second creates an application process for banks seeking to issue payment stablecoins, including procedures for appeals and hearings. Comments are due 60 days after publication in the Federal Register, as regulators work towards the Act's January 2027 effective date after missing an initial July deadline, and Governor Michael Barr, while supporting the proposals, raised concerns about anti-money laundering oversight, questioning a standard under which supervisory action would be taken only where issues are deemed significant or systemic.

In the United Kingdom, seven major banks, Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds Banking Group, Monzo, Nationwide, NatWest and Santander, have completed the first transactions under the Great British Tokenised Deposit initiative, using a shared platform built by Quant with support from EY and Linklaters, including two remortgage payments by Lloyds, NatWest and Barclays in which funds were locked during the property process and released automatically on completion, and a simulated marketplace purchase involving HSBC in which programmable deposits held buyer funds until receipt of goods was confirmed. UK Finance plans to establish governance structures and launch three digital bonds tradable via tokenised deposits by early 2027, as Bank of England Deputy Governor Sarah Breeden signals support for traditional deposits, tokenised deposits, regulated stablecoins and potentially a retail digital currency coexisting; in Canada, the country's six largest banks, BMO, CIBC, National Bank, RBC, Scotiabank and TD, have launched a joint project to move tokenised Canadian dollar deposits between institutions, after the banking regulator OSFI clarified that tokenised deposits are not legally distinct from traditional deposits.

🤖 TECHNOLOGY, AI & INNOVATION

Akamai Signs an $11.6 Billion Computing Deal With Anthropic as Oracle Invokes Force Majeure on Its New Mexico Stargate Campus

Akamai Technologies announced on Thursday an $11.6 billion, seven year commitment from Anthropic to run CPU workloads on its cloud infrastructure, with scope for a further $9 billion that would take the total value to around $20 billion, sending Akamai shares up more than 20 percent in after-hours trading; the company expects capital spending of around $5.5 billion to support the commitment and will raise its 2026 capital expenditure by $1.7 billion to secure supply chain components. As part of the agreement, Anthropic receives a warrant for up to 5 percent of Akamai's common shares at an exercise price of $111.33, with 2 percent vesting immediately and a further 1 percent for each additional $3 billion committed, building on a $1.8 billion deal struck in May; the arrangement is the latest in a series of capacity agreements by Anthropic, including a $19 billion contract with TeraWulf for 401 megawatts at a Kentucky data centre and memory and storage deals with Micron Technology.

Oracle shares fell around 6.4 percent on Thursday after the company sent a force majeure notice to the Blue Owl Capital unit developing Project Jupiter, a 2.45 gigawatt Stargate AI data centre campus in New Mexico serving OpenAI and SoftBank, to protect itself from payment obligations should the facility miss its 2028 deadline; Oracle said the project remains on its planned schedule, and Blue Owl said the notice does not change the financial commitments, but an Energy Transfer gas pipeline intended to serve the site has been delayed by almost six months to 1st February 2027 after repeated permit denials, and the air quality permit for its fuel cell system faces a 23rd November regulatory deadline. Elsewhere, Meta Platforms rose after chief executive Mark Zuckerberg unveiled $1,299 VR glasses, a Muse Charm pendant and a series of upgrades to its Muse AI agent at Meta Connect, including Mac desktop control, a dedicated email address and retail integrations with Best Buy, Gap, Sephora, Walmart, Wayfair, Expedia, Instacart and Shop Pay, with Zuckerberg stating that Meta will make Muse free for a huge number of tokens and expects to profit over time by taking a small fee from transactions.

🌍 GLOBAL MONETARY POLICY & MACROECONOMICS

In the United States, New York Federal Reserve President John Williams said on Thursday that it would be reasonable to expect another rate rise by the end of the year, in line with the median of policymakers' projections, while Philadelphia Fed President Anna Paulson, who had previously favoured holding rates steady, said that underlying inflation remains stubbornly elevated and that some modest further tightening may be warranted, citing pressures from the Middle East conflict and the build-out of AI infrastructure. Data released on Thursday underlined the economy's resilience, with initial jobless claims falling by 1,000 to 197,000 in the week to 19th September against expectations of around 201,000, continuing claims at 1.72 million and new home sales rising to an annualised 684,000 in August, well above the 643,000 forecast, and CME FedWatch now implies around a 69 percent probability of a 25 basis point rise at the 27th to 28th October meeting, with Friday's durable goods orders and final University of Michigan survey followed by next Wednesday's August PCE inflation report, where core prices are forecast to rise 3.3 percent year on year.

In Europe, Germany's Ifo Business Climate Index rose to 89.9 in September from 88.8 in August, beating expectations of around 89.1 and reaching its highest level in more than three years, with the current situation balance improving to 89.5 and expectations climbing to 90.4, led by the electrical equipment industry and a return to positive territory in services, although retailers remain very cautious amid concerns about inflation, a backdrop that keeps a further European Central Bank rate rise in October under consideration. In Japan, the yen strengthened by around 0.5 percent to about 158.1 per dollar on Friday, snapping a five session losing streak, after Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama disclosed that President Trump had expressed concerns about the yen's weakness in discussions with Japan's Prime Minister, a reminder that Tokyo and Washington conducted their first coordinated yen buying intervention since 1998 in late July and that the 160 level remains a closely watched threshold for further action.

🔴 ELEVATED RISKS: Technology, Geopolitical & Macro

•        The 30 Year Treasury Yield at Its Highest Since 2004 Keeps Pressure on Risk Assets: With the ten year yield near 5.19 percent, real yields rising to around 2.76 percent and Fed officials Williams, Paulson and Barr all signalling further tightening, a hot PCE report next week could push yields higher still and test Bitcoin's $84,000 to $85,000 support zone.

•        A $352 Million Exchange Breach Revives Operational Security Concerns: Bitget's disclosure that attackers spoofed transaction data to trigger its own authorisation process, rather than stealing private keys, highlights a class of backend vulnerability that could affect other centralised platforms and may prompt tighter scrutiny from regulators and counterparties.

•        Brent Above $105 and Gulf Missile Attacks Sustain the Energy Inflation Threat: Despite reports of a phased Hormuz deal, sequencing disputes between Washington and Tehran, Iran's warning of a new front and attacks on Saudi export infrastructure leave oil vulnerable to further spikes that could reinforce the case for tighter monetary policy.

•        An Escalating State Level Assault on Prediction Markets Creates Legal Uncertainty: New York's suit against Polymarket, following its action against Kalshi and similar cases in Arizona, Massachusetts and Nevada, deepens the jurisdictional conflict with the CFTC and could disrupt a fast growing segment of the crypto linked economy while the courts resolve who holds authority.

🟢 POSITIVE DEVELOPMENTS: Institutional & Regulatory

•        Five Straight Sessions of ETF Inflows Show Institutions Buying the Dip: Around $1.3 billion of net inflows into US spot Bitcoin ETFs over five sessions, alongside four consecutive days of inflows into spot Ether ETFs, indicates that institutional allocators are absorbing the macro shock and providing a cushion beneath current support.

•        The Federal Reserve Moves the GENIUS Act Towards Implementation: The Fed's proposals on reserves, capital, risk management and bank applications provide the first detailed prudential framework for bank issued stablecoins, bringing greater clarity for institutions preparing to enter the market ahead of the January 2027 effective date.

•        Tokenisation Crosses Into Live Banking and Asset Management: Live tokenised deposit transactions among seven UK banks, a joint project by Canada's six largest banks, IBM's connection to Swift's shared ledger and BlackRock strategies arriving onchain through Ondo mark a significant step towards mainstream adoption of on-chain money and assets.

•        A Phased US-Iran Framework Offers a Pathway to Reopening Hormuz: Reports that both sides are exploring a staged deal, with Iran willing to defer its demand for transit fees, raise the prospect of lower energy prices and reduced inflationary pressure should negotiators overcome the sequencing impasse.

Trump and Xi Agree to Create a US-China Board of Trade and Pledge to Keep AI Under Human Control

President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks at the White House on Thursday ahead of a state dinner, agreeing to establish a new US-China Board of Trade designed to shield selected goods from trade disputes, alongside the previously confirmed extension of their tariff truce to 10th January 2027, which keeps lower tariffs and Chinese rare earth supplies in place. Artificial intelligence featured prominently, with Trump describing the technology as a big topic of discussion and referring to super intelligence as a priority, while Xi said that both nations are leading in AI and called for it to remain under human control, adding that competition between the two countries should be healthy and kept within bounds; Trump nonetheless indicated that he expects no moves towards formal US-China AI guardrails, arguing that existing Justice Department oversight is sufficient.

DeepSeek's Annualised Revenue Tops $1 Billion as It Nears a $7.5 Billion Fundraising

The milestone underscores the commercial traction of lower cost Chinese models in global markets, and comes as capital continues to pour into the sector elsewhere, with medical AI company OpenEvidence raising $250 million at a $15 billion valuation and security company Island raising $400 million at a $6.4 billion valuation.

Brooklyn Man Sentenced to Up to 12 Years for a $16 Million Coinbase Impersonation Scheme

Ronald Spektor of Brooklyn has been sentenced to between four and 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to a 31 count indictment, including first degree money laundering, grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, for impersonating a Coinbase representative and persuading around 100 users across the United States that their assets were at risk from a hacker, before convincing them to transfer around $15.94 million of cryptocurrency to wallets he controlled over roughly a year, with some victims losing $1 million or more. The stolen assets were swapped repeatedly across exchanges before being consolidated at cash-out points and converted into other tokens, cash, gambling funds and gift cards; Spektor was ordered to forfeit more than $500,000 of assets and pay nearly $16 million in restitution, although the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office, which had sought a sentence of seven to 21 years, opposed the plea arrangement.
